Fair Use Doctrine and Five Stars

While I dedicate the bulk of my writing time to my own novels, I also read a lot, in the firm belief that reading widens personal horizons and enhances understanding. Promoting reading is one of this blog’s two purposes. The other is expressing my opinion on a variety of issues I think are important.

In my book reviews, I may reproduce book cover images published at Amazon or elsewhere, as well as short excerpts from the book. I also use images from the internet to accentuate opinion pieces. I believe I’m permitted to do this under the fair use doctrine of copyright law. That said, I will remove images and excerpts upon the request of copyright owners.

I do not charge a fee to review books, although I may accept an author-provided copy of the book they’ve asked me to review. In addition to this blog, I post my reviews on Amazon, Goodreads, Twitter, LinkedIn, my Facebook Page and https://dansantos.us.

One more thing: you may notice many of my reviews are Five Stars. All I can say is I seldom review a book I can’t praise. Life is too short. If an author sends me a complimentary copy in exchange for a fair review, and I can’t praise it, I send it back. There are plenty of good writers out there who need a lift.
